Inter Miami vs. Sporting Kansas City 2023 MLS Odds, Time, and Prediction

Inter Miami is coming off a huge win over the reigning MLS champion Los Angeles FC, but the Herons are still far behind the MLS Playoff zone. To get into the top 9 in the Eastern Conference, they need to keep on winning. That’s why beating Sporting Kansas City on Saturday, September 9, 2023, is a must for Lionel Messi & Co.

Inter Miami Needs to Continue Winning in the MLS

Inter Miami is without a loss since Lionel Messi joined the club. They won the 2023 Leagues Cup and are 1-1-0 in the MLS in the Messi era. However, they’re still eight points behind the closest team from the playoff zone (DC United).

The good news for the Herons is that they’ve played two or more games fewer than all the teams currently sitting above them in the Eastern Conference standings. What this practically means is that they just need to continue winning to get to the top 9.

So, the big question is whether they can keep on winning. With Messi on the pitch, they look capable of beating any opponent in North America. However, there are some questions about the fitness of the 36-year-old. On the bright side, he’ll have had almost an entire week to prepare for the Sporting KC game.

Sporting Kansas City Is Horrible on the Road

A thing that’s making Sporting KC players optimistic about their trip to Florida is that they’re in top shape since the resumption of the 2023 MLS. They’re coming off two straight wins. First, they defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0; then, they beat St. Louis City 2-1. What’s interesting is that both of those games took place in Kansas City.

Sporting KC is 8-8-11 overall, but these guys are horrible on the road. Their away record in the 2023 MLS is 1-6-1. Plus, the last time the boys from Kansas City won an MLS game away from their home was on May 7, when they defeated the Seattle Sounders 2-1 in Washington State. The problem is that the Sounders aren’t great on their turf, at least not as Inter Miami.

Inter Miami vs. Sporting KC Prediction

Inter Miami has the motivation, as well as the manpower to win Saturday’s game. Plus, considering that it’s played on their turf, the Herons will also have their fans to cheer them on. That’s why anything but a convincing win for Inter Miami would be a huge surprise in our eyes.

Kyle Walker has opened up on his decision to remain at Manchester City this summer.

Journalist Sam Lee of The Athletic reported on Walker’s decision to stay with Manchester City ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

The England international was heavily linked with a move away, after verbally agreeing a move to the Bundesliga, with the German champions Bayern Munich. The England international himself said the deal was close, in an interview after City’s 5-1 win over Fulham on Saturday.

His quotes about staying at City stated: “Why should I walk away if I am going to get enough game time that’s right for me? That’s all I want. I want to play football I love the game and want to play, whether that’s here, Germany, Italy, Spain, the Championship. I still want to play because to stay at home with the kids would be hard work!”

Walker is now set to sign a new deal with Manchester City, and since Ilkay Gundogan left the club this summer and the injury to Kevin De Bruyne, he has been given the captain’s armband by Pep Guardiola, showing his trust in the 33-year-old.

Walker played a key role for City as they won the treble last season and it’s certainly easy to imagine he could’ve had a hugely positive impact at Bayern, who let Benjamin Pavard leave for Inter Milan, meaning there was a gap to fill in their defence.

Nottingham Forest are reportedly set to bid for Leicester City’s Wilfred Ndidi.

That’s according to leading football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who claims the Reds are ‘expected’ to submit a formal offer for the Nigerian midfielder before Friday’s deadline.

Nottingham Forest fans will be delighted at their club’s decision to go after a player who, not so long ago, was considered one of the Premier League’s best defensive midfielders.

Ndidi, who has just 12 months left on his contract, looks certain to leave the King Power after six years.

During his time with the Foxes, the 26-year-old, who was part of Brendan Rodgers’ 2021 FA Cup winning squad, has directly contributed to 24 goals in 242 games in all competitions.

Crystal Palace eyeing Leicester City striker with 56 goals in 210 appearances

Roy Hodgson clearly isn’t happy with the way that his Crystal Palace strikers have begun the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The elder statesman amongst the Premier League manager has seen his side draw a blank against Arsenal and narrowly beat Sheffield United on the opening day.

With such a vibrant, attacking side at his disposal, one goal scored in two games isn’t enough to get Hodgson excited, and with nine days left of the transfer window it appears that the south Londoners are going to do their upmost to bring in a striker who has 56 goals in 210 appearances according to the Daily Mail.

In order for there to be room for Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho to join, however, the Selhurst Park outfit must first get rid of Jean-Philippe Mateta say the Daily Mail.

It’s believed that RB Leipzig could be interested in taking the player, though nothing has been confirmed at this stage.

Without the guile, power and pace of Wilfried Zaha, Palace seem to have lost a lot of their ‘zip’ in attack, and that could be a worry for Hodgson.

Therefore, any more for Iheanacho isn’t just strategic but necessary.

There’s plenty of time to secure the player’s future, though the sooner Mateta agrees to join Leipzig – if indeed he wants to – the better.

Tom Brady joins a growing cast of American A-listers to invest in English football with his minority stake in Championship side Birmingham City – but who are the other stars bringing their millions to these shores?

The A-list American takeover of English football continued apace on Thursday with the shock announcement of NFL legend Tom Brady’s minority ownership of Championship side Birmingham City.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion has become the chairman of an advisory board working with Blues chiefs and promised to bring his winning ethos to St Andrew’s.

The 46-year-old’s move makes him the latest personality from across the pond to invest in English football following the San Francisco 49ers led takeover of Leeds last month.

Add in the likes of Hollywood actor Michael B Jordan buying a stake in Bournemouth, LeBron James’ stake in Liverpool and the famous north Wales double act of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, British football investment is in vogue.

Mail Sport takes a look at some of the most prominent US stars to dip their toes into football inside and out of this country.

    Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney

Not long ago Reynolds was just one of Canada’s most popular movie actors and McElhenney was simply known for creating a cult hit of a sitcom in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

But now the pair’s purchase of Wrexham – which they acquired from fans for a ‘peppercorn’ before investing £2million – and subsequent promotion back to the Football League for the first time in 15 years has made them some of the most astute – and popular – sports owners on the planet.

And it has proved to be a model many of their peers in North America have sought to emulate.

Rob McElhenney (left) and Ryan Reynolds guided Wrexham to a league title last season

Rob McElhenney (left) and Ryan Reynolds guided Wrexham to a league title last season

Since their 2021 purchase, Reynolds and McElhenney have produced an Emmy-nominated documentary series chronicling the epic transformation at Racecourse Ground.

They’ve secured a lucrative shirt sponsorship with United Airlines, drafted in big name players such as former Man United goalkeeper Ben Foster and have considerably raised the profile of the side to the point where the National League champions were part of a pre-season US tour alongside United and Chelsea this summer.

The two actors have been an overwhelming success in Wales and are now gunning to reach the Premier League.

    Tom Brady

From the most famous example to the most recent.

Brady retired from the NFL for the second time in February but clearly cannot help but be around football – whether it’s of the North American or English variety.

Thursday’s news will raise supporters’ spirits ahead of the new Championship campaign which begins with a trip to Swansea City on Saturday.

‘Birmingham City is an iconic club with so much history and passion and to be part of the Blues is a real honour for me,’ the seven-time winning Superbowl quarterback said in a video confirming the news.

‘BCFC is built on teamwork and determination and I’m excited to work alongside the board, management and players to make our Second City club second to none.

‘I’ve been part of some amazing teams in my day, and I’m looking forward to applying my perspective to create that same success here in Birmingham.’

The exact nature of his stake and his involvement is not totally clear and no doubt he will be far less hands on compared to McElhenney and Reynolds – who have their own WhatsApp groups with Wrexham’s players!

Nonetheless, St Andrew’s is guaranteed to be abuzz for the club’s first home game of the season against Leeds next Sunday and his first visit to the club will represent the start of a new era after years of ownership woe.

    JJ Watt

In the first example of the ‘Wrexham effect’, NFL hero JJ Watt and his wife – former United States international Kealia – invested in newly-promoted Burnley after being inspired by Reynolds and McElhenney’s work in North Wales.

Vincent Kompany’s side have the National League champions to thank for their new minority owners, who were taken in by Wrexham’s behind-the-scenes documentary.

‘We watched the documentary on and it was so cool to see what they’ve done,’ Kealia admitted when the pair annoced their investment in May.

‘That’s kind of what we are modelling this after. Wrexham is such a fun team and we have followed that.’

During Burnley’s title celebrations after making a storming return to the top-flight, the duo took part in a pub crawl, soaking up the atmosphere in the Lancashire town as fans rejoiced at Burnley’s achievement.

Watt retired from the NFL last year after 12 seasons.

He is a three-time defensive player of the year and widely tipped as a future hall-of-famer. In 2021, Forbes ranked his estimated wealth at £27m.

His wife Kealia played three times for the United States women’s team and has underlined her desire to elevate the growth of the women’s team at Burnley.

    LeBron James

LeBron James was quick to invest in Liverpool following the club’s takeover by US multinational conglomerate Fenway Sports Group in 2010.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer purchased a two per cent stake in Liverpool for just £4.7m in 2011 and it’s fair to say he got in a right time.

Since then the club have enjoyed a period of sustained success and soaring commercial value which has seen James’ stake balloon to an estimated £35m last year.

The four-time NBA champion converted his stake in Liverpool to a one per cent share in FSG’s global empire in March 2021 following the club’s 2019 Champions League triumph and Premier League title win a year later.

Back in February Liverpool revealed an LFC X LeBron collection, featuring both a fashion and footwear range which the club says ’embodies a long-standing connection between two global sporting icons, celebrating our shared values and illustrious histories’.

He may not be running the show but given the LA Lakers’ stars business accumen and global reach, having him on board is not to be dismissed.

    Michael B Jordan

Actor Michael B. Jordan is a minority stakeholder in Bournemouth under the ownership of Bill Foley.

The 36-year-old actor, who has played a leading role in blockbuster films like ‘Creed’, ‘Black Panther’, is new to the world of sports ownership.

Foley meanwhile, is not new to the sports world, as he’s been the owner of the expansion hockey team Las Vegas Golden Knights since 2016.

The NHL required a £394m expansion fee to be paid by Foley, far more than the £145m it took to purchase a club in the world’s biggest soccer league.

The 78-year-old has made his money as the chairman of Fidelity National Financial, one of the largest insurance companies in the US, and his net worth is £947m.

Foley also served as chairman of Black Knight, a software and data provider for the mortgage industry.

San Francisco 49ers and Michael Phelps

Leeds United’s takeover by 49ers Enterprises was finally been approved by the EFL last month more than five weeks after announcing Andrea Radrizzani had agreed a deal to sell his majority share to the Americans.

It was only then that fans at Elland Road were treated to the cast of esteemed figures who would be forming part of their ownership group.

it emerged that the most successful Olympian of all time, American swimmer Phelps, will have a stake in Daniel Farke’s Championship side, along with golfers Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas and other stars from American football, basketball and ice hockey.

Paraag Marathe, the new Leeds chairman and 49ers Enterprises president, said: ‘This is an important moment for Leeds United and we are already hard at work.

‘This transition is a necessary reset to chart a new course for the club. We have already appointed a highly-respected manager with a track record of success, and we are confident Leeds will field a competitive squad to contend for promotion next season.

Barcelona are in talks to sign Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo following the end of his loan spell with Bayern Munich.

The 29-year-old made a shock exit from the Etihad in the January transfer window and is reportedly set for a permanent move this summer.

According to talkSport, La Liga champions Barcelona have begun talks with City over acquiring the full-back, who arrived in Manchester from Juventus in 2019 for £60m.

Pep Guardiola’s side are believed to prefer selling the Portuguese international over another loan agreement and Barcelona could be in a position to meet City’s demands following the sale of Ousmane Dembele.

Barcelona boss Xavi outlined the club’s need to bolster their defensive line after the Catalan giants’ 1-0 friendly win against AC Milan on Tuesday.

Joao Cancelo’s loan move to Bayern came after a training ground bust-up with Pep Guardiola

‘With the departure of Dembele, we need a pure right-back now,’ he told reporters.

Cancelo made 21 appearances for Bayern during the second half of the campaign, helping the German giants capture their 11th straight Bundesliga title on an eventful final day.

The move was enforced after a training ground bust-up with Guardiola in which the defender is said to have reacted angrily after he learned that he would not be in the starting XI for City’s FA Cup clash with Arsenal in January.

Cancelo had been vocal at a lack of game time and became disruptive to the squad while his relationship with Guardiola progressively deteriorated after the World Cup.

He made his return to the City squad for the start of pre-season and caught the eye in the side’s opening friendly victory against Yokohama F. Marinos.

Josko Gvardiol has long been a wanted man by Man City, but Pep Guardiola may not be able to acquire the world-class defender after Leipzig put a swift deadline on when they will stop negotiating for their player and keep him in situ.

The Croatian was one of the best players at the World Cup last year, and it’s no wonder that the Cityzens want to acquire someone who can be accurately described as ‘best in class.’

Though a world record fee for a defender is to be expected in order for Leipzig to allow their star man to move on, the Manchester Evening News note that such a fee will need to be paid by August 12 at the very latest.

Effectively, that gives the powers that be at the Etihad Stadium just over a fortnight to get the deal fully signed, sealed and delivered.

Given that reliable journalist, Fabrizio Romano, tweeted a week ago that there had been issues during the final stages of negotiations for the player, and nothing concrete has happened since, there needs to be a re-aligning of the strategy and situation from all parties in order to move any deal forward.

Players have been left in limbo during transfer windows past of course, but the players involved and the money being spoken about – €100m according to Football Transfers – are rarely at this level.

That’s because Gvardiol to City is a monumental transfer if it goes through.

Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ahli are ready to make a £30m bid for Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez but it is believed that the Premier League champions are not keen on selling the 32-year-old.

The future of the Algeria international is still up in the air ahead of the new season as the former Leicester star is yet to make a decision on what is best for him. Mahrez has two years left on his current Man City contract and could opt to stay and fight for his place in a very competitive Pep Guardiola side, reports The Athletic.

Al Ahli have already made a proposal to Mahrez worth a whopping £25m per year but will need to agree a transfer fee with the Premier League champions in order for the deal to progress.

City are believed to not be very keen on a sale as the Manchester club would then need to recruit a replacement before the campaign begins.

Riyad Mahrez to leave Man City?

Guardiola has already lost Ilkay Gundogan this summer and looks set to lose Kyle Walker as well in the coming weeks. There is also uncertainty over Bernardo Silva’s Man City future in addition to Mahrez and treble winners will not want to lose their squad depth that helped them achieve incredible things last season.

£30m seems a fair fee for Mahrez should City accept it but there is still a long way to go before this deal is done – although the Saudis can make things move very fast should they wish.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland is reportedly set to be offered a new contract after a release clause that had been in his deal was removed due to it being tied to Pep Guardiola’s future.

The Norway international previously had a release clause that would have become active in 2024, but now the Athletic report that that clause is no longer there with the recent extension of Guardiola’s contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Haaland has been sensational since moving to City from Borussia Dortmund last summer, scoring 47 goals in 40 games in all competitions to have the team dreaming of a potential treble victory.

It seems inevitable that other top clubs around Europe will be keeping an eye on Haaland with stats like that, but it now looks like City are in a stronger position to secure his future.

The Athletic now claim MCFC will offer the 22-year-old a new contract, so it will be interesting to see if that also ends up including any clauses.

It was a major statement signing by City to bring an elite performer like Haaland to the club, but now keeping him for the long term will be the test.

In the sky blue lair of the Etihad Stadium last Wednesday, Manchester City and Bayern Munich had not experienced the same evening in the quarter-final first leg of the Champions League. If the Skyblues had offered themselves a major success for the rest of their European course, the Rottens, in addition to the sporting rout, had to manage an altercation between two of their players, Leroy Sané and Sadio Mané, in the locker room. The second was also sanctioned with a suspension match, served this weekend, and a fine estimated at 500,000 euros by the German press.

And before receiving the reigning English champion for the second round, the Bundesliga leader was held in check by the thirteenth in the championship, Hoffenheim, in the league (1-1). Not the best of preparations for Thomas Tuchel’s men, winning just two of their last five matches in all competitions. We are far from the dynamics proposed by the Mancunians, quiet winners of Leicester to extend their incredible series of rank victories to 10 (37 goals scored, 4 conceded), perfect for gaining a little more confidence before the trip to Bavaria.

Regarding the eleven expected at the Allianz Arena, starting with that of Bayern Munich, Thomas Tuchel should not change his device and would align his usual 4-2-3-1. Yann Sommer would defend the goals, while Dayot Upamecano and Matthjis de Ligt would form the central hinge with Benjamin Pavard and Joao Cancelo on the corridors. And behind the double pivot Joshua Kimmich-Leon Goretzka, the attacking quartet would be made up of captain Thomas Müller on the right, Leroy Sané on the left and Jamal Musiala to support Sadio Mané in the axis of the attack.

On the Skyblues side, Pep Guardiola would keep his plan with his 3-2-4-1, which has been a successful bet in recent weeks. The usual titular Ederson would be established in the company of a tripartite defense composed of Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias and Nathan Aké. In his paid tactical repositioning, John Stones would line up alongside Rodri in midfield. In the second line of the midfield, Bernardo Silva and Jack Gralish would accompany Kevin De Bruyne and Ilkay Gündogan, expected with the armband this Wednesday evening. Finally, the serial scorer, Erling Haaland, would occupy his role as number 9.
