The exciting new format for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 is being looked at

The 2025 competition will be held in the United States from June to July. It will be different from previous competitions because it will have a new format that will make football fans around the world more excited.

Find out more about football competitions at William Hill

The history of the FIFA Club World Cup

This was the first time the FIFA Club World Cup had been held every year since it started again after a break in 2005. However, in 2016, FIFA president Gianni Infantino suggested that the Club World Cup be expanded to 32 teams. This idea has since come to life, and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup will be the first event with this exciting new format, which includes more teams and a bigger stage for them to perform on.

The biggest teams in Europe haven’t been interested in this tournament in the past, so it hasn’t been a top priority for those teams. However, the expansion is meant to attract these teams and make the tournament more competitive, making it bigger and better than ever.

The current format of the tournament has seven teams competing for the title over two weeks at venues in the host nation. The winners of that year’s AFC Champions League (Asia), CAF Champions League (Africa), CONCACAF Champions Cup (North, Central America, and the Caribbean), CONMEBOL Libertadores (South America), OFC Champions League (Oceania), and UEFA Champions League (Europe) compete in a straight k format.

A Look at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025

There was initial backlash against the proposed expansion because it raised concerns about the safety of the players given the already full schedule. However, FIFA believes that putting more time between tournaments will make this competition more exciting and worth the effort from teams all over the world.

The United States has been chosen to host in June and July 2025. This will be the first event in the new format, so there are high expectations. To win over the critics, the hosts must set the tone for the future of the competition.

Teams Participating FIFA Club World Cup

Thus far, only 13 teams have been confirmed for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup:

The teams participating in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup include:

    • AFC: Al-Hilal (Saudi Arabia), Urawa Red Diamonds (Japan), TBD (Winners of the 2023-24 AFC Champions League), TBD (Best eligible team in the AFC 4-year ranking)
    • CAF: Al Ahly (Egypt), Wydad Casablanca (Morocco), TBD (Winners of the 2023-24 CAF Champions League), TBD (Best eligible team in the CAF 4-year ranking)
    • CONCACAF: Monterrey (Mexico), Seattle Sounders FC (United States), Leon (Mexico), TBD (Winners of the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup)
    • CONMEBOL: Palmeiras (Brazil), Flamengo (Brazil), Fluminense (Brazil), TBD (Winners of the 2024 Copa Libertadores), TBD (Best eligible team in CONMEBOL 4-year ranking), TBD (Second-best eligible team in CONMEBOL 4-year ranking)
    • OFC: TBD (Best OFC Champions League winner in OFC 4-year ranking)
    • UEFA: Chelsea (England), Real Madrid (Spain), Manchester City (England), TBD (Winners of the 2023-24 UEFA Champions League), TBD (Best eligible team in UEFA 4-year ranking), TBD (Second-best eligible team in UEFA 4-year ranking), TBD (Third-best eligible team in UEFA 4-year ranking), TBD (Fourth-best eligible team in UEFA 4-year ranking), TBD (Fifth-best eligible team in UEFA 4-year ranking), TBD (Sixth-best eligible team in UEFA 4-year ranking), TBD (Seventh-best eligible team in UEFA 4-year ranking), TBD (Eighth-best eligible team in UEFA 4-year ranking)

The new format for the tournament will have the 32 teams split into eight groups of four teams each. The top two teams in each group will move on to the knockout stage. The rules will be the same as those used by the FIFA World Cup from 1998 to 2022.

    Important dates and plans

Before the tournament, the above-mentioned competitions will be the most important events. Teams must win these competitions in order to qualify for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. This makes it possible for the best teams from around the world to compete like never before from 2021 to 25.

    Showing off a new format

The old rules of the competition had the national league champions of the host country play the winners of the OFC Champions League in a playoff. The winner then played the winners of the AFC Champions League, the CONCACAF Champions League, and the CAF Champions League in the quarterfinals. The winners then go to the semi-finals, where they will play the winners of the Copa Libertadores and the UEFA Champions League. One of the teams that wins in the semis will then go to the final and be named the winner.

There shouldn’t be any bias before the tournament starts, so the new, more familiar format is suggested. This way, all the teams will start on an even playing field by going through a more traditional group stage.

Now it will be set up like the FIFA Club World Cup, with each team playing each other once. The winners in each group will move on to the round of 16 and so on, all the way to the final.

Fans will love the 2025 tournament because it will feature games between big teams from Europe and smaller teams from around the world. This is something that would never happen normally, so fans should be very excited about it.

    The Fan Experience

For fans all over the world, the chance to go to the US to watch this tournament would be truly unique and amazing. Even though football fans like it because it means there is more football on TV, some people in the football community don’t like it as much.

What people in the football community thought

Jamie Carragher, a former Liverpool defender, thinks that the players are being overused and “treated like cattle.” He thinks that European clubs should not play in this new format. With what seems like an endless flow of money going into the game, it only makes sense to add more tournaments and competitions, which make the players overworked just to entertain fans.

People in the football community have different thoughts on the idea, so we’ll have to wait about a year to see how it works out.

William Hill lets you bet on football.

The best ways to bet on the FIFA Club World Cup 2025

Strategy, research, and a good knowledge of the game are all important when betting on football games. Remember that betting always comes with some risk, and there are no sure things that will happen. If you want to bet on football games, here are some things to think about:

    Looking into Teams and Players

Find out how your team is doing, which players are hurt, and how they’ve been playing lately. Think about things like the team’s home and away records, head-to-head records, and any recent news about the team.

Get to know the markets and odds

Find out what odds mean and how they work. Odds show how likely it is that a certain outcome will happen. There are different ways to show odds, such as decimal, fractional, or moneyline. Make sure you know which format your bookmaker uses.

Bankroll Management: Decide how much you want to spend on betting and stick to it. Do not bet more than you can afford to lose or try to win back losses. You might want to use a small portion of your betting bankroll on each bet.

Bet Types: Learn about the different kinds of bets you can make, like straight bets, accumulators, over/under bets, and handicap bets. The risk and reward of each bet are different, so pick the ones that fit with your strategy.

  • Heinrich can stamp Klaas on World Cup

Heinrich can stamp Klaas on World Cup

The Cricket World Cup continues in the first round of group games and South Africa and Sri Lanka make their bow at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday (09:30). We’ve taken a look and given two tips for your attention.

South Africa (4/9) are the perennial under-achievers in this competition, having never been past the semi-finals in the history of the event.

The Proteas have some wonderfully gifted players, however and can be backed at 8/1 to win the tournament outright.

Captain Temba Bavuma and his side had a superb warm up series for this tournament, coming from two down against the mighty Australia, to win the series 3-2. Those last three victories all contained scores of 300+, with a massive 416 scored in Centurion.

Up first, they face a really tricky looking tie against Sri Lanka (17/10), who had to face a qualification tournament just to reach India.

The Lions responded magnificently to such a challenge, winning all eight games and ensured the likes of Zimbabwe and the West Indies failed to reach the finals.

Dasun Shanaka’s side are seen as one of the outsiders for this tournament at 40/1 but they kept up that good form in the Asia Cup, reaching the final before eventually losing to India.

Chris Silverwood’s outfit have shown vulnerability at times though, none more so than in that very final, when they were skittled by an inspired Mohammed Siraj for 50!

An early victory here for either side would stamp down a marker on this six week long gruelling event and gather some early momentum.

    Team news

The Proteas are missing pace king Anrich Nortje, as well as fast bowler Sisanda Magala, who have been replaced by Kagiso Rabada and 23-year-old Gerald Coetzee.

South Africa (from):  Temba Bavuma (c), Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Reeza Hendricks, Marco Jansen, Heinrich Klaasen, Keshav Maharaj, Aiden Markram, David Miller, Lungi Ngidi, Andile Phehlukwayo, Kagiso Rabada, Tabraiz Shamsi, Rassie van der Dussen, Lizaad Williams.

The Lions are also missing two of their main pacemen in Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Madushanka but perhaps the biggest loss is world class leg-spinner Wanindu Hasaranga.

Sri Lanka (from): Dasun Shanaka (c), Kusal Mendis (vc), Kusal Perera, Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dushan Hemantha, Maheesh Theekshana, Dunith Wellalage, Kasun Rajitha, Matheesha Pathirana, Lahiru Kumara, Dilshan Madushanka

Heinrich Klaasen top SA run scorer – 11/2

I was shocked to see perhaps the form ODI player in world cricket right now, as big as 11/2 in the betting.

The 32-year-old wicketkeeper batter was simply stunning in Centurion, smashing 174 from just 83 balls, as South Africa demolished Australia.

Klaasen hit a whopping 13 sixes in that innings and averages over 59, in 2023, in this format.

Maheesh Theekshana top SL wicket taker – 11/4

The loss of Hasaranga is huge for Sri Lanka but what an able deputy they have in Maheesh Theekshana.

At just 23-years-old the right-arm mystery spinner has catapulted himself into all three formats of the game for the Lions and has shone in particular in the 50-over setup.

In just 27 matches the off-break bowler has captured 44 wickets at a little over 23, with four 4-wicket innings. He will be a real threat on the dust bowl of Delhi.

Reliable journalist says Aston Villa interested in key World Cup winner

TigerGaming Poker 100% up To $1000 Welcome Bonus

Aston Villa have had an impressive transfer window this summer and it looks like it could get better as the Birmingham club are interested in World Cup winner Gonzalo Montiel.

The right-back has not started the opening two games of the season for Sevilla as José Luis Mendilibar has opted for Jesus Navas. Both Aston Villa and Fulham could provide the defender with a way out of Spain as they are both interested in signing the Argentina star, reports the reliable Gaston Edul.

The Argentine reporter states that Sevilla are open to a full sale but not a loan move as they wait for clubs to submit official offers.

Matty Cash is currently Villa’s starting right-back and the arrival of Montiel would provide the Polish international with stiff competition at Villa Park.

Montiel was a key member of the Argentina squad that won the World Cup in Qatar and it was the full-back who scored the winning penalty to bring the biggest prize in football back to his country.

It seems that there is still a long way to go before the 26-year-old is making a move to England but the interest is concrete.

Tottenham braced for world record bid for Harry Kane as Bayern hopes fade

TigerGaming Poker 100% up To $1000 Welcome Bonus

After biding his time for so long, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy might just be about to hit the jackpot with regards to striker, Harry Kane.

It’s seemed abundantly clear from the outset that Levy doesn’t want Kane to go anywhere, but there appears to be a tacit acknowledgment that the player sees his future elsewhere.

To that end, it’s incumbent upon Levy to get the very best price for the player, in order that the funds can be reinvested in playing staff.

Bayern Munich have been trying, and failing to this point, to get a fee agreed with the north Londoners in order to bring the striker to the Bundesliga.

Any deal with the Bavarians isn’t necessarily off the table, it just hasn’t been done yet, and it may now be too late.

That’s because TeamTalk understand that Saudi Pro League side, Al Hilal, are preparing a world record £200m bid to take the centre-forward to the Middle East.

After losing out on Kylian Mbappe and Victor Osimhen, the side will surely hope that it’s third time lucky in terms of securing a world class front man.

Kane has never shown any desire to move to the Saudi Pro League to this point, however, nor did many of his contemporaries until recently, assuaged by the incredible riches on offer which will set them and their families up financially for life.

If Levy accepts any potential offer, then Kane has a very big decision to make.
