    Inter Miami Needs to Continue Winning in the MLS

    Inter Miami is without a loss since Lionel Messi joined the club. They won the 2023 Leagues Cup and are 1-1-0 in the MLS in the Messi era. However, they’re still eight points behind the closest team from the playoff zone (DC United).

    The good news for the Herons is that they’ve played two or more games fewer than all the teams currently sitting above them in the Eastern Conference standings. What this practically means is that they just need to continue winning to get to the top 9.

    So, the big question is whether they can keep on winning. With Messi on the pitch, they look capable of beating any opponent in North America. However, there are some questions about the fitness of the 36-year-old. On the bright side, he’ll have had almost an entire week to prepare for the Sporting KC game.

    Sporting Kansas City Is Horrible on the Road

    A thing that’s making Sporting KC players optimistic about their trip to Florida is that they’re in top shape since the resumption of the 2023 MLS. They’re coming off two straight wins. First, they defeated the San Jose Earthquakes 3-0; then, they beat St. Louis City 2-1. What’s interesting is that both of those games took place in Kansas City.

    Sporting KC is 8-8-11 overall, but these guys are horrible on the road. Their away record in the 2023 MLS is 1-6-1. Plus, the last time the boys from Kansas City won an MLS game away from their home was on May 7, when they defeated the Seattle Sounders 2-1 in Washington State. The problem is that the Sounders aren’t great on their turf, at least not as Inter Miami.

    The midfielder decided to hang up his boots at the end of last season, and he will officially take charge as the London club’s sporting director in January.

    Chelsea in talks to appoint Christoph Freund as new sporting director – sources

    Chelsea are continuing to pursue an agreement to appoint Christoph Freund as their new sporting director despite FC Salzburg‘s reluctance to allow him to leave, sources have told ESPN.

    The 45-year-old has held a series of talks with Chelsea, who have identified several candidates including Bayer Leverkusen‘s Tim Steidten and Paris Saint-Germain‘s Luis Campos.

    Sources have also told ESPN that former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards has previously distanced himself from the role.

    Chelsea believe Freund, who is credited as the man who helped discover Manchester City forward Erling Haaland while helping develop players including Sadio Mane, Naby Keita and Dayot Upamecano, is willing to move to Stamford Bridge but the club have met strong resistance from Salzburg.

    Sources have told ESPN that Salzburg are willing to make Freund, who has held the club’s sporting director role since 2015, a counter offer to stay and would demand hefty compensation should he join Chelsea.

    Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly stepped in as interim sporting director to help lead the club’s transfer strategy after lead negotiator and director Marina Granovskaia left the club, followed by technical and performance adviser Petr Cech.

    ESPN reported on Sept. 8 that Chelsea are aiming to appoint a sporting director before the World Cup begins in November and that new manager Graham Potter would have a say in the process.

    Sources have suggested that Potter is keen on working with Freund, while Boehly and co-owner Behdad Eghbali see him as a logical fit for the multi-club ownership model they are attempting to implement.

    Red Bull already own clubs in Salszburg and Leipzig as well as New York among others. Sources have told ESPN that Chelsea are likely to aiming to make more than one appointment to add football expertise to their internal structure to support whoever is name sporting director.
