  • Brighton Tips: Billy has the Power

Brighton Tips: Billy has the Power

Brighton stages a competitive-looking seven-race card on Monday, Sept 18th. A gorgeous course that invariably produces great finishes and high drama.

Let’s have a closer look at a couple of contests – I’ve already previewed and plumped for one in the 13.55 in a companion piece, so let’s turn our attention to the rest of the action.

    16.45 – Evasive Power @ 4/1

Young Billy Loughnane has been one of the very best ‘finds’ in racing in recent years. Natural ability off the scale, winners flow, plaudits arrive deservedly. He’s got another bright chance on Monday in my book aboard Evasive Power.

Robyn Brisland trains, and interestingly Billy was on top last time out at Chepstow when a running-on second in this grade over a furlong shorter. Billy retains the partnership and gets an extra furlong in which to work his magic.

Evasive Power returned from a little spring break seemingly energised, and as he’s won over a mile this trip of 7f at this stage of his career might be just the ticket, bearing in mind how the cards were played at Chepstow.

He’s a pound lower, on 56, than his last winning mark, and has known during his career a time when he was in the mid-80’s! A sprinkle of young Mr Loughnane’s special talent and we might just be cheering this one home.

    17.20 – Areille @ 3/1

Anyone who has seen the Nap of the Day piece will know I admire jockey David Probert. He takes the ride on Jack Jones’ Areille here over an extended 5f+, and once again we’re in the value brand section of Class 6 handicappers.

The 4-yr-old returned from a high summer break of some 51 days with a fine 4th beaten just 2l, at Redcar. That was over 6f, so back in trip a hundred yards or so, which I don’t think will be an issue.

She began her racing life in Ireland and actually won at this trip in Sligo 3 years ago. She won at Fairyhouse off 70 ridden by Billy Lee just over a year ago, and if getting remotely adjacent to reproducing any of that old sparkle we’re got a wonderful chance.

Her last 3 runs have all been very consistent and she deserves to get her head in front again. The booking of Probert is a massive plus.

Celebrate Speak Like a Viking Day with Power of the Vikings Slot

Okay, so talk like a Viking Day isn’t really a thing. I’m coming clean – it was just a clickbait title to get you here. Now that you are, how about a quick Viking fact before we get onto the game?

Do you remember learning that Christopher Columbus was the first European to discover North America? Well, that was bull. Scientists believe that the Vikings began building settlements in North America centuries before Columbus sailed across to steal the accolade for the Norse settlers. It makes you wonder what else you learned in history class is completely wrong, doesn’t it?

History books are, however, not going to help you win big with Power of the Vikings slot from Booming.

Do you like the pointy hats?

Power of the Vikings slot is all about wilds. The slot has three different wild symbols, each offering a unique feature. All three wild symbols can appear in both the base game and during free spins. However, during free spins, one of the symbols has its feature supercharged.

The first type of wild symbols are random wilds. On any spin, up to 6 random wilds can appear on the reels in the base game, and up to 10 random wilds during a round of free spins. Colossal wilds are bigger than the standard 1×1 wild and can appear as 2×2, 3×3, or 4×3 symbols on the reels. Finally, multiplier wilds will award a multiplier to winning amounts.

Three or more scatter symbols will trigger a round of the slot’s free spins feature. Scatter symbols can only appear on reels 1, 3, and 5. Before a round of free spins kicks off, you’ll be given a choice between three different features: random wilds, colossal wilds, and multiplier wilds. The feature you select will be guaranteed on every spin during your round of free spins.

If pillaging and conquering isn’t your thing, you can select to purchase a round of free spins instead. The slot’s buy bonus feature is fairly basic, offering the ability to change the bet amount, and that’s about it.

Is Power of the Vikings slot the attack of the clones?

Why do game providers keep producing Viking-themed games? Better yet, why do providers keep producing the same Viking-themed game? There is very little new or creative about Power of the Vikings slot. If you’re looking for a solid slot with some interesting bonus features, then there’s nothing wrong with it. However, if you’re looking for something new and exciting, Power of the Vikings slot is not for you.

The slot offers medium to high volatility. This gives the gameplay a balance between small, consistent wins and rare big wins. However, the variability will also mean that portions of the gameplay will lean away from small, consistent winning opportunities. The 1,500x max multiplier results in you needing to bet at a massive €100 a spin to play for the €150,000 max payout. The slot has an RTP of 95.6%.

If you want to explore a few more titles from Booming, I recommend trying Revolution and Lava Loca.

  • Hurricane Power has every chance

    Hurricane Power has every chance

Flat racing holds sway across the UK and Ireland on Monday with four meetings taking place across the afternoon and into the evening.

First off is Brighton before they go at Chepstow, Roscommon and Windsor.

Amongst our Monday fancies is one for trainer Robyn Brisland who went close on her recent seasonal return and remains unexposed at sprint distances.

    15:00 Brighton – Duely Spiced @ 3/1

Gay Kelleway’s filly DUELY SPICED has been runner-up in her two starts so far and can make it third time lucky by landing this Maiden Fillies’ Stakes over 6f at Brighton in the hands of Josephine Gordon.

The daughter of Due Diligence took second spot on debut at Windsor (6f, good to firm) in May and occupied the same berth at Lingfield (7f, soft) in early August behind Ambiente Amigo – the Michael Bell runner having shaped with lots of promise previously in a good contest at Newmarket.

Duely Spiced was no match for her, but having been headed, she showed a willing attitude in repelling the challenge of Royal Expert for the silver medal and that experience should stand to her now.

    16:20 Windsor – Hurricane Power @ 2/1

Look out for HURRICANE POWER at Windsor as the Paul & Oliver Cole-trained colt looks set to open his account on his third start.

The son of Exceed And Excel has improved in each of three racecourse appearances to this point and boasts the best form on offer coming into this British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes over 6f.

He looked a winner in waiting when narrowly edged out over this course and distance nine days ago, getting to the lead early after breaking alertly and battling all the way to the line having been challenged for that lead from two furlongs out.

Having looked held, he was only denied in a head-bob on the line as the judge was needed to separate the front two. Tom Marquand is back in the saddle for a stable in excellent form of late and, now back in a maiden, Hurricane Power looks a likely winner.

    16:30 Chepstow – Porterinthejungle @ 5/1

A former Chepstow course winner, Robyn Brisland’s PORTERINTHEJUNGLE can thrive back at the Monmouthshire course this afternoon.

The Bungle Inthejungle mare won here in the summer of 2021, one of five turf wins (5-27). Four of those wins have come over 7f but the most recent was over this trip at Windsor last October.

That was her first go at the minimum distance and, on her second attempt, she came within a whisker of going in again when returning from 304 days off over this course and distance.

She was away alertly in that contest and was strong through the line despite suffering some interference late in the contest.

From an unchanged mark and with the excellent Billy Loughnane in the saddle again, this mare is unexposed as a sprinter and, with that match sharpness now assured, she could prove tough to peg back this time.

  • Lehecka’s Key To Success: Power. Lots Of Power.

Lehecka’s Key To Success: Power. Lots Of Power.

One of the breakthrough stars of the early part of the season has been Jiri Lehecka. The 2022 Next Gen ATP Finals runner-up made a big impact Down Under when he battled to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open with wins over stars including Borna Coric, Cameron Norrie and Felix Auger-Aliassime.

How has he stepped up against top-tier competition? Power. Lots of power.

According to statistics courtesy of Tennis Data Innovations and TennisViz, the Czech star already has one of the biggest forehands in the world. Over the past 52 weeks, Lehecka’s average forehand speed has been 79.2 miles per hour with an average spin rate of 2,992 revolutions per minute. That is a daunting combination of speed and spin.

It puts Lehecka in the same neighbourhood as renowned ball-bashers Felix Auger-Aliassime (78.4mph and 3,178rpm), Andrey Rublev (78.2mph and 2,917rpm) and Jannik Sinner (77.8mph and 2,901rpm). The ATP Tour average for forehand speed and spin are 75.1 miles per hour and 2,713 revolutions per minute, respectively.

Chart courtesy of Tennis Data Innovations and TennisViz, a joint venture between the ATP and ATP Media.
Tennis Data Innovations and TennisViz also produces a metric called ’Shot Quality’, which analyses each shot’s speed, spin, depth, width and the impact it has on the opponent. Lehecka’s 52-week average on the forehand side is 8, and it has improved to 8.3 over his past 10 matches.

Over the past year, his Shot Quality mark has been in the same range as Auger-Aliassime (8.1), Rublev (7.9) and Sinner (7.9). The Tour average is 7.2.

“When I met Jiri first time, he surprised me with the humility. He was such a nice person,” Lehecka’s coach, Michal Navratil, told ATPTour.com. “And then of course it was immediately the strength and the power of his shots that were in him.”

What is scarier for the rest of the Tour is that the 21-year-old Lehecka is still harnessing his power, according to his coach. When they first began working together, Lehecka used a different racquet brand and his string tension was 24/23 kilograms.

    [ATP APP]

Lehecka has since experimented with different racquet and string setups to help control his game.

“He had a huge problems with the string,” Navratil said. “He was able to destroy the string in 10, 15 minutes. [It was] not even for the first ball change, so it was massive.”

The Czech has had his racquets strung increasingly tighter, helping to rein in his game.

“It’s funny. Last year was something extremely special,” Navratil said. “He was stringing last year in Australia 35/33. So in the beginning he was really like a beast with so much power. But finally he manages how to control it and everything. Still I think he cannot play on full percentage of his power because I think in this world there are not racquets he can go for full and he can control it.”

That has paid dividends in his rapid climb up the Pepperstone ATP Rankings. It was a year ago when he reached the Rotterdam semi-finals as a qualifier ranked No. 137. Now Lehecka, armed by one of the biggest forehands in the world, is No. 52 and climbing (career-high No. 37).

Lehecka begins his run at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open on Tuesday in Doha against qualifier Damir Dzumhur.
