American global casino and hospitality giant MGM Resorts announced a new deal with Davante Adams, a professional NFL wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders. According to the agreement, Adams will promote MGM Resorts’ brand as a brand ambassador.

Adams Joins MGM as a Brand Ambassador

Adams is notably the first active NFL player MGM Resorts has ever teamed up with. As a brand ambassador, he will be responsible for promoting the casino company. In addition, he will participate in various digital content activations and will be featured in MGM Resorts’ marketing campaigns. Adams will furthermore make appearances during MGM Rewards events at the company’s Las Vegas property.

Adams is best known for his time with the Green Bay Packers, a Wisconsin-based NFL team. As a part of the team, the pro athlete helped it beat its franchise record for receiving yards in a single season. To top it off, Adams is the only member of the Packers to ever score more than 100 receiving yards within two games of a single post-season. He is also famous for scoring the most touchdowns during the 2020 season and has been among the top 100 players for the last four years.

After eight seasons with the Packers, the football pro parted ways with the team this summer and opted to join the Las Vegas Raiders where he currently remains.

Lance Evans, MGM Resorts’ international senior vice president of sports and sponsorships, spoke about the agreement. He noted that his team is thrilled to welcome Adams to the MGM family and lauded the player as one of the most esteemed NFL professionals. Evans noted that Adams is a “class act both on and off the field” and praised him for his strong fan base. The SVP concluded that he is looking forward to future MGM Rewards activations, featuring Adams.

We are excited to welcome one of the NFL’s elite players to the family and look forward to his future engagements with our MGM Rewards members.

Adams also commented on his agreement with the casino and hospitality giant. He noted that MGM Resorts has been exceptionally welcoming to him and his family. Because of that, Adams feels honored to become the first active athlete to ink a brand ambassador partnership with the company.

The football pro praised MGM Resorts as a world-class company and vowed to “continue building a legacy” in this new city [Las Vegas] he now calls home.

Casino stocks have been associated with slumping performance over the past two years, but most assets have rallied magnificently, despite facing multiple challenges on the international market. Going global has been a strong diversification strategy and a risk for some companies, but the bid has mostly paid off.

Macau to Not Put Dent on MGM Stock

MGM Resorts, which is exposed to the economic and regulatory uncertainty in Macau, seems to be weathering the storm well enough despite the special administrative region not being anywhere near pre-pandemic results and the outlook fairly dimmed.

But among the gloom, there is room for cheer. Even the most exposed stocks, such as MGM Resorts, have the potential for growth, mostly boosted by domestic growth. MGM’s overseas ties to Macau are no reason for investors to shun its stock, Jacky Wong from the Wall Street Journal reports. In fact, the company has been doing so well domestically, that its stock is most likely a buy. Besides, the long-term prospects internationally are looking equally promising.

MGM Resorts is in pole position to build the first Integrated Resort in Japan and Macau is bound to make a recovery sooner or later. Most predictions have this recovery slated for the end of 2024. Of course, uncertainty persists. MGM’s share has fallen a quarter of the value year-to-date course, which is a red flag for investors.

But then again, it also means the opportunity to buy a strong future-proof asset on the cheap. Besides, MGM has taken heed of the way the world has changed over the past year, reducing its market capitalization from Macau operations to only 8% of Bellagio’s. MGM is not only operating in the physical landscape, though, with the namesake BetMGM brand grabbing headlines as it goes along.

    MGM Stock Shows Long-Term Resilience

Domestic recovery and the proliferation of legalized sports gambling (Kansas is due to launch on September 1, with mobile sports gambling arriving on September 8) have given strong signals that MGM Resorts is a good bet. BetMGM may yield its first profits in 2023. But as online sports gambling and even casinos gather space, occupancy for MGM’s properties on the Strip already exceeds 90%, meaning that MGM is a preferred leisurely venue.

With skilled diversification, a strong balance sheet, and changing priorities, investors have at least some reassurances that MGM Resorts is in an exceptionally strong position to not only continue to work towards delivering better value to shareholders, but also to absorb any future emergencies.

MGM Resorts International announced in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) that the digital media and internet services company InterActiveCorp (IAC) has increased its stake in the business.

Buying when the Market Is Down

According to the regulatory filing under Schedule 13D/A, the business led by mogul Barry Diller has been actively purchasing shares in MGM Resorts between August 11-23 and spent around $41.7 million in new company stock to increase its stake to 16.5%.

IAC’s move to up its stake in the gaming and entertainment business came during times when MGM Resorts’ shares dropped significantly from the $45-$48 range at the beginning of the year to the $27-$35 range in July and August.

IAC CEO Joey Levin hinted at the upcoming purchases of MGM Resorts’ stock in a shareholder letter on August 9 in which he outlined the solid consumer demand at MGM Resorts properties coming from the leisure consumer segment. Levin also pointed to the all-time high average daily room rates in Las Vegas.

Levin commented on the company’s investment in MGM Resorts during IAC’s earnings call in May, outlining that “the online gaming business … has outperformed” the company’s expectations, showing tremendous growth that is likely to continue in the future.

    History of Share Purchases

IAC started buying shares at MGM Resorts in August 2020 when it accumulated a 12% stake valued at around $1 billion. At the time, Diller commented that IAC found itself with cash to burn after the separation of Match Group from the business and pursued the investment in MGM Resorts considering it as a leading operator in a gathering speed online gaming and betting industry.

In January this year, IAC proposed to increase its investment in MGM Resorts and provide financial support for the company to fund its bid to acquire its partner in BetMGM Entain. A few days earlier, MGM had tabled over $11 billion to acquire the British gaming group but Entain considered the bid significantly undervalued the company’s worth.

IAC increased its shareholding at MGM Resorts in February when the media business and MGM Resorts announced they would each purchase a total of 4.5 million shares to the aggregate amount of $405 million from hedge fund Corvex Management. IAC acquired $202.5 million worth of stock as part of their agreement and upped its shareholding to 14.4%
