Inter Miami have confirmed the signing of former Barcelona star Jordi Alba as the left-back reunites with Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets in the MLS.

The Spain international left the Catalan side at the end of last season and it allowed Miami to pick him up on a free transfer. The 34-year-old has agreed a one-year deal with the MLS franchise as they look to build a team to win titles around Messi having experienced a horrendous campaign so far this season.

Alba will link up with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets who were unveiled as Inter Miami players on Sunday. The duo took part in their first training session in Fort Lauderdale on Tuesday and are expected to make their debut against Cruz Azul this Friday.

This will be the first club Alba has played for in 11 years after leaving Barcelona at the end of last season. The left-back experienced an incredible time with the Catalan giants winning every trophy possible.

Many fans will be excited to see him link up with Messi as the duo had a strong relationship in Spain.

Luis Suarez looks to be the next friend of the Argentine’s that will come through the door at Inter Miami, now that the Alba deal is complete. The striker is believed to be in advanced talks with the MLS franchise over a move and they will hope to complete a deal soon with his current club Gremio.

A little bomb. On Sunday evening, Joan Laporta ignited Spain and especially Catalonia with a short but cash statement about the sevenfold Ballon d’Or. When a fan asked him: “Messi at Barca?”he has answered : “Yes”. It was enough for everyone to panic. Because since the departure of the Albiceleste international in the summer of 2021, supporters have only dreamed of one and only thing: to see him return home. A dream that could come true since everyone at the club wets the jersey to achieve it.

Joan Laporta, for example, met Jorge Messi, the player’s father and agent, on several occasions to talk about a possible return. Xavi is also helping out by maintaining contact with the 35-year-old footballer. The two men exchange by message or voice note. And the players in all this? As we know, Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, two close to the Pulga, recently had dinner in Barcelona with the Messi couple. According to the Iberian press, the Catalans have asked the 2022 world champion if he has made up his mind and if a return to Barca is possible.

The players are on fire for the return of Messi

The player born in 87 would not have answered but he would have made a big smile which said a lot. What to give confidence to the FCB? Nothing is certain. On the other hand, what is is that the subject of Messi is talked about even in the Blaugrana locker room. In effect, Sport explains that Xavi’s players increasingly believe in a possible return of the Argentine legend. In public, as in private moreover, the Catalan group has positive echoes from the club. We tell them that this is not “a chimera” and that we are working on this operation behind the scenes.Sport adds that the Barça locker room would be delighted to see him again in the Blaugrana jersey.

Besides, Messi is still in contact with several former teammates. During private conversations, he would have left the door open to a come back in Barcelona. Which drives the Culés crazy, who know that Lionel Messi will want to take care of his exit after a bitter farewell in 2021. The team would support him in this mission, she who will be very motivated in the event of the Argentinian’s return. Like Robert Lewandowski, who has spoken publicly in favor of his return, the Catalan dressing room wants to have Messi at his side in 2023-24. The ball is in the court of the player and Barça, who will have to find solutions to assume this operation financially.

  • Pundit expecting Lionel Messi to make ‘simply amazing’ Barcelona return

Pundit expecting Lionel Messi to make ‘simply amazing’ Barcelona return

Lionel Messi is destined to return to his former club Barcelona.

That is the view of former Aston Villa and Liverpool attacker Stan Collymore, who believes the Argentina superstar’s proposed return to the Nou Camp would be ‘simply amazing’.

Messi, 35, spent over two decades with the Catalan giants before financial problems meant the club were unable to extend his contract.

Forced to leave in the summer of 2021, the South American made the snap decision to join Paris-Saint Germain on a two-year deal, and although the Parisians have the option to trigger an additional year, this summer could see the 35-year-old move on.

Rumoured to have been offered an equity stake in David Beckham’s Inter Miami as an incentive to join (Independent), Messi has the opportunity to experience the MLS.

However, with La Liga still a far superior league in terms of competitiveness and Messi understandably adored by Barcelona fans, the Catalan giants, by their own admission, would love to welcome, arguably their best-ever player, home, and Collymore believes it could soon become a reality.

“If Lionel Messi did return to Barcelona, it would be simply amazing,” Collymore said in an exclusive interview.

“He obviously feels he has life left in him to perform at the highest level in Europe and he’s not wrong. He knows that La Liga is a more competitive league than Ligue 1 and Barcelona is his club. Barcelona’s fans are his fans and being heckled and booed by PSG’s supporters recently is only reaffirming that.”

During his 21 years with Barcelona, Messi, who scored 672 goals in 778 games, in all competitions, helped guide the club to 35 major trophies, including 10 Spanish league titles and four Champions League trophies.

  • the complicated return of Lionel Messi to the Parc des Princes

    What’s next after this ad

It was the event of the day at the Parc des Princes, where PSG received Rennes (0-2) this Sunday. The moment everyone has been waiting for. This time, there was no question of reserving a heroic welcome to a Lionel Messi freshly crowned with his title of world champion with Argentina. No. This time, everyone was waiting to see what reception the Paris Saint-Germain public would give to a Leo Messi in great difficulty since his return from Qatar, like his performance in the knockout stages of the Champions League against at Bayern Munich. All in a context made even hotter following the latest revelations about the Pulga and its behavior in training this week.

    Messi whistled by PSG fans

Without real surprise, the sevenfold Ballon d’Or suffered a few whistles (and cheers) when the announcer pronounced his name during the announcement of the team compositions, a few minutes before the kick-off of the clash against Stade Rennes. Unfortunately, without real surprise either, the Argentinian international, in line with his last outings, did not splash this part of his genius, his class and his talent either. If he distilled some good balls, especially towards a Kylian Mbappé whom he constantly (or almost) sought, Lionel Messi failed to make a difference on the ground and to get his people out of the trap. by the SRFC in Paris.

Like KM7, he collided, it is true, with a great Steve Mandanda (33rd, 72nd) after having sent the first thrill through the garden of Paris SG (16th). But the former captain of FC Barcelona once again moved physically, not seeming able to respond to the impact and intensity of Rennes in the duels. Messi has stalled a lot, in a game that is almost too stereotypical, to try to create something. In vain.

Behavior that still makes people talk

Without forgetting that in addition to (too) often walking, head down, and not being very mobile in the heart of the game, the Parisian n ° 30 was sometimes guilty of irritable behavior in the eyes of fans of the PSG, which no one wants to see and which is perhaps starting to become too recurrent, like this slide, full axis, bringing a dangerous loss of the ball followed by a barely hidden nonchalance.

As if to make his case worse, Lionel Messi then did not drag to return to the locker room at the final whistle. The Albiceleste captain first exchanged his jersey with Rennes defender Arthur Theate, then “checked” a few opponents and the refereeing corps, before heading to the locker room, under a handful of whistles. And this even though his teammates were still on the field to greet the Parisian public. This should put a coin back in the machine and relaunch the debate around Messi’s future at PSG even more.

  • Kylian Mbappe makes history for PSG on the night Lionel Messi scores his 799th career goal

Kylian Mbappe makes history for PSG on the night Lionel Messi scores his 799th career goal

The incredible French striker, Kylian Mbappe, has made history once again, this time in front of his adoring Paris Saint-Germain fans and on the night when team-mate, Lionel Messi, scored his 799th career goal.

It was the Argentinian that opened the scoring in an eventual 4-2 rout of Nantes, and were he to have bagged his 800th, it may have overshadowed Mbappe’s incredible record.

In just 247 games according to ESPN FC, the striker has become the Ligue Un club’s all-time top scorer.

Before Saturday night’s game, he was level on 200 with Edinson Cavani, but his late strike saw him move one ahead of the Uruguayan in the history books.

It was yet another golden moment in a career which has seen the player score a World Cup final hat-trick, win the World Cup as a teenager, and earn multiple club and individual titles despite being just 24 years of age.

There appears to be no ceiling to just how good the player can become, and perhaps the only blot on his copybook at this stage is the fact that PSG haven’t been able to secure a longed-for Champions League title.

If the French giants are able to hang onto Mbappe and Messi for at least another season or two, then that dream might well turn into reality.

If it does, don’t be at all surprised if the French striker is at the heart of bringing another trophy back to the Parc des Princes.

Lionel Messi was crowned The Best by FIFA at an award ceremony on Monday night but his old foe Cristiano Ronaldo refused to cast a vote for the award.

The Argentina international was once again voted by his peers as the best player in the world having led Argentina to a third World Cup crown, with the PSG star being the star of the tournament as he was determined to win the sport’s biggest prize for the first time.

The 35-year-old beat PSG teammate and World Cup final hat-trick hero, Kylian Mbappe, to the award on a night where the Argentina National Team cleaned up.

The award is voted by the captains and coaches of national teams, and there was one captain whose vote was noticeably absent.

    Messi won The Best award

After the award ceremony, how the players and coaches voted are always revealed and according to GOAL, Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo refused to cast a vote and instead, passed on the responsibility to his good friend Pepe.

The former Real Madrid man chose Kylian Mbappe, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema as his trio, and to no surprise left Messi out.

The reason for Ronaldo not voting is still unknown, but it is not hard to guess why.

  • We have never seen a Lionel Messi like this

We have never seen a Lionel Messi like this

If his talent has always been admired, Lionel Messi has often been criticized for his personality and his charisma, not necessarily up to legend. Shy sickly, the Argentinian has not accustomed us to strong outings or controversies … until the 2022 World Cup! In Qatar, we have indeed discovered a brand new Messi…

In the eternal war with Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi has always suffered from its image. Because against the charismatic Portuguese, the little Argentinian never really seemed able to assert himself as a true leader, capable of leading his team with an iron fist. Finally, that was before the 2022 World Cup!

    The new Messi has arrived

These last weeks, Lionel Messi showed a rather startling picture. The perfect example is obviously the quarter-final between theArgentina and the Netherlands (2-2). Penalty scorer for the fleeting advantage ofAlbiceleste, Messi was unrecognizable with a polemical celebration against the Dutch bench and especially against Louis van Gaal, who seemed to be the target of all his anger. The seven-time Ballon d’Or would have accused the coach of Orange certain remarks against him.

“What are you looking at, moron?” Get over there, you jerk! »

New Messi showed even more in the post-game, with several striking images. The first is his face to face with Van Gaal precisely, which seemed very tense and which obliged Edgar Davids to step in to mediate. It is then the explosion, with the now famous reaction on Argentine television and its anger addressed to the Dutch striker Wout Weghorst. What are you looking at, jerk? Get over there, you jerk! ” threw Messi at the microphone of TyC Sportspassing in a few seconds to posterity.
