Federico Valverde has revealed that he almost joined Arsenal before moving to Real Madrid.

The Uruguayan midfielder is one of the most sought-after players in the world as he continues to dominate in the middle of the park for Real Madrid.

Valverde has two La Liga titles and one Champions League to his name since completing his move to Madrid in 2016.

But in a recent interview on Twitch, the 25-year-old revealed that he almost joined Premier League side Arsenal.

During the live stream, Valverde was asked if there was a club that almost joined before Los Blancos and he replied ‘Arsenal’.

The Uruguayan will join a long list of world-class players who almost moved to North London including the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Arsene Wenger, who was the manager at the time, had an incredible eye for talent but unfortunately for him, he was competing with some of the best sides in Europe for Valverde’s signature.

Looking back he won’t regret his decision moving to Spain but he may eventually play in the Premier League before his career ends.

Linked with a move to Liverpool in the summer, Real Madrid value the player at around the £100m mark and with their already stacked midfielder, they may be open to letting him go.

Barcelona secured a loan deal for Man City’s Joao Cancelo this summer and with the full-back unlikely to ever return to the Etihad, the Catalan club would like to keep him if he continues to perform.

The La Liga giants have serious financial issues which has hindered their most recent transfer windows. As the club can’t afford many permanent transfers, Barca have taken advantage of the free-agent market and loan deals to get by.

Two of the biggest this summer were that of Portuguese duo, Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo. Both have made promising starts to life in Catalunya and Barcelona president, Joan Laporta, is happy to try and keep them if they continue to perform.

Laporta said about the duo on Catalunya Radio via Fabrizio Romano: “If João Cancelo and João Félix continue to play at their same level, we will make an effort to keep them.

“I want top players to stay at Barça and I have really liked João Félix for a long time”.

Cancelo’s time at Man City is certainly finished, despite being one of the best full-backs Pep Guardiola has had during his time at the Manchester club. The Premier League champions will be happy to sell the Portugal international but Barcelona will have to meet their asking price.

The 29-year-old has made a promising start to life in Spain across his opening eight games, proving Xavi’s side with two goals and an assist. The Barca boss is a fan of Cancelo and he will be hoping those behind the scenes at the La Liga club can make a permanent deal happen next summer.

AC Milan is reportedly keen on signing Harry Maguire as Manchester United look to offload the defender.

The England international has dropped down the pecking order at Manchester United after Erik ten Hag took over last year.

The arrivals of Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane signified his time as a consistent starter coming to an end.

Although Maguire has featured recently for the Red Devils, the return of the two aforementioned players from injury will likely see him restored to the bench once more.

The 30-year-old almost left Old Trafford in the summer but a proposed move to West Ham fell through after Maguire chose to stay and fight for his place.

But the defender recently stated “I am not going to sit here all my life and play once a month”, which has put a number of clubs on alert.

According to talkSPORT, AC Milan is one of a few Italian clubs interested in his signature, along with West Ham who may go back in for Maguire.

With England teammate Fikayo Tomori already thriving at Milan and Chris Smalling paving an almost identical path to Roma in 2019, a move to Italy may benefit the defender.

Manchester United will allow Anthony Martial to leave before next month’s transfer deadline.

Failing to convince Erik Ten Hag he is worthy of a place in his regular starting 11, Martial, 27, has remained nothing more than a bit-part figure ever since the Dutchman succeeded Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Not only that but following the Red Devils’ recent capture of highly-rated Denmark international Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta for just over £70 million, Martial’s future at Old Trafford has become even more uncertain.

The French striker, who is way down in his side’s pecking order, will be allowed to move on in search of a new challenge should a suitable offer be made.

And as per CaughtOffside sources, although the 27-year-old has failed to attract much interest up until this point, one club that is now considering making an approach is Italian giants Inter Milan.

The Nerazzurri have made Arsenal’s Folarin Balogun as their top summer target but with the Gunners holding firm in their valuation, the Serie A side have been forced to pencil up a list of potential alternatives.

Similar to the financial hurdles Inter are struggling to overcome for Balogun, Martial’s proposed transfer also has its difficulties. The Frenchman earns within the region of £13 million per year – a figure the Italian club will not be able to match. Nevertheless, the 2009-10 Champions League winners have requested to remain informed on the striker’s situation though.

Newcastle United have reportedly agreed on a deal to sign Kacey Wooster from Southend.

Newcastle have shown a willingness to invest in talented young players recently and they have also completed deals to sign Micheal Mills and Sam Alaby.

The young striker will look to continue his development with regular football for the Newcastle youth team and it remains to be seen whether he can force his way into the first-team squad in the coming seasons.

If he ends up achieving his potential with Newcastle in the coming seasons, the investment could prove to be a masterstroke from the Premier League club in the long run.

Bayern Munich have opened exploratory talks with Brentford regarding their goalkeeper David Raya as the Spaniard is now an option for the German giants’ goalkeeping position.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who reports that the Premier League side want around £40m for the 27-year-old, which makes the deal a hard one to complete, as that fee was what turned Tottenham off making a move.

The North London club identified the Brentford star as their number one target for their goalkeeper role but that fee was not an option for Spurs.

Tottenham even agreed personal terms with the Spaniard but in the end, they decided to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.

Yann Sommer spent the second half of last season between the sticks at Bayern but the veteran goalkeeper looks set to leave the club during the current transfer window, with Romano reporting Inter’s interest in the Swiss international.

Neuer will likely return to the number one spot next season following his long injury but Raya would be the man to succeed the Bayern legend should he decide to leave the Bavarian club next summer when his contract expires.

Leeds United are worried they could lose star forward Wilfried Gnonto this summer after just one season with the Yorkshire club.

The 19-year-old joined the Premier League club from FC Zurich last summer for a bargain £3.8m deal but having impressed on his debut season for the Whites, clubs such as Chelsea are interested in luring him away during the upcoming window.

According to TalkSPORT, the West London club are pushing – along with AC Milan and Juventus – to sign Gnonto and with a contract at Elland Road until 2027, Leeds are under no pressure to sell the Italian star.

The forward has played 17 times in the Premier League this season for Leeds, scoring two goals and assisting a further three. The Yorkshire club will make a significant profit should they sell the Italian this summer but they will likely try their best to keep him unless they are relegated from the English top flight.

The future of Christophe Galtier at Paris Saint-Germain is still up in the air following recent performances and should the French giants sack their manager, Jose Mourinho could be in line for the role.

That is according to Foot Mercato’s Santi Aouna, who reports that PSG’s sporting advisor Luis Campos has made contact with the Roma boss. The former Chelsea manager is said to be the Parisian club’s plan B should Galtier be relieved of his duties.

The number one target is Zinedine Zidane, who is wanted by the Emir of Qatar and has often been linked to the role in the French capital.

Mourinho has a contract with Roma until 2024 and delivered the club a trophy last season for the first time since 2008, whilst the Giallorossi currently sitting in the Champions League spots in Serie A.

The Portuguese coach doesn’t seem to have lost his touch and there is no better man to whip the squad of superstars at the Paris club into line.

Either Mourinho or Zidane will command the respect of the PSG dressing room, and should Galtier leave the French club in the near future, both coaches could be a good choice.

Manchester City loanee Joao Cancelo has hinted at a permanent exit from the club.

Currently, the Portugal international is spending the second half of the 2022/2023 campaign on loan with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

There was speculation regarding his deadline day exit from the Etihad, but the player and Pep Guardiola stressed there were no hard feelings involved in Cancelo’s departure.

The 28-year-old had been a standout performer for City in recent seasons, playing a pivotal role in their back-to-back Premier League winning campaigns.

    Cancelo hints at future

However, Cancelo could be looking to seal a permanent move away from England this summer when his loan spell reaches its end. According to Movistar via Fabrizio Romano, the defender said: “I’ve not received any proposal from Real Madrid in January, no… if rumours say so, I don’t know.

“If a club like Real Madrid wants you, it’s a pleasure — it also means I’m doing the right things”.

There is also a chance Bayern could try and keep him beyond the summer if he impressed over the next five months.

If that is the case, Guardiola will likely be on the market for a fullback in the next transfer window.

“Madness” – President of Euro giants warns Chelsea + others after extravagant Premier League transfer spending

TigerGaming Poker 100% up To $1000 Welcome Bonus

Feyenoord president Dennis te Kloese has described the transfer spending by Premier League clubs as “madness” and has warned that English teams still need to know what to do to develop players as well as just buying them.

We’ve just seen a record-breaking January transfer window, with Chelsea’s spending in particular really catching the eye as new owner Todd Boehly looks to rebuild the club after a difficult period.

Huge amounts have been invested to bring in big names like Enzo Fernandez, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and others, and the spending of Premier League clubs now dwarfs what other major European leagues are doing.

Te Kloese has had to sell a number of Feyenoord players recently, and it seems he finds what’s happening in English football at the moment a little crazy.

“It’s amazing what happens in England at the moment,” Te Kloese told The Athletic. “A lot of it is madness. There is no guarantee when you spend money.

“You always need to retain a good perspective on how to develop the players once you sign them. The scouting has to be top-notch, but so does everything around the team.”

It will be interesting to see if this major overhaul works out for Chelsea, or if the Blues end up being exposed for a lack of a coherent strategy.
