With Brighton and Hove Albion flying high at the top of the Premier League at present, the thought of a player wanting to leave them to drop down into the Championship at join Leeds is an odd one to say the least.

However, it isn’t always a bed of roses at a football club, particularly if you happen to be a player that doesn’t often get the opportunity to make their mark.

Though Roberto De Zerbi has clearly tried his best to use as many players as possible since he took over the position from Graham Potter, there are always going to be those that find fault.

It happens in all walks of life, and unless there’s a genuine grievance behind why the player believes he’s being left out, then working hard and being visible are the two things to get him noticed.

Argentinian journalist, Bruno Gonzalez Garcia, has tweeted that his countryman, 18-year-old Facundo Buonanotte, a rising star that could benefit from regular football, is expected to join Leeds on loan in the next few days.

Though he’s perhaps not the biggest name he’s certainly made an impression at the AMEX Stadium, and looked after well by the all whites, there’s no reason why this move can’t be a win win.

The player gets regular football at a high level, whilst Leeds shore up a team who are still struggling with players wanting to leave, such as Willy Gnonto.

Tottenham have confirmed the signing of striker Alejo Veliz from Rosario Central in a move believed to be worth around £12million.

The 19-year-old has agreed a five-year contract and the transfer includes a 10 per cent sell-on clause.

He is Ange Postecoglou’s second signing of the day after defender Micky van de Ven, who completed his £43m move from Wolfsburg earlier.

Part of the Argentina U20 team, Veliz was also a target for Nottingham Forest, but it is Spurs who have secured his services after opening talks last week.

The young forward broke into Rosario Central’s team in 2021 and has gone from strength to strength since, bagging 11 goals in 23 outings this season.

Last week they brought in Blackburn defender Ashley Phillips on a five-year deal for £2m.

That followed the signings of James Maddison for £45m, Dejan Kulusevski for £25m, and Manor Solomon on a free.

The club are set play to Barcelona in the Joan Gamper Trophy tonight and it has emerged that Harry Kane will not take part.

Tottenham rejected a ‘final’ bid of £86m from the Bavarian giants on Monday but it is understood that they will return with another offer.

The 30-year-old has set a personal deadline of Sunday, when Spurs meet Brentford in their Premier League opener, for the clubs to thrash out any deal.

Liverpool announce record revenues but there is a future worry in the accounts for FSG

Liverpool have announced record revenues on Tuesday but the rise in costs shows that the Reds could struggle to compete in the future.

Although it did not have a fairytale ending, last season was a memorable one for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp’s team went the closest of any English team to winning the quadruple and played every game possible.

The accounts for the season show that the Merseyside club recorded a small pre-tax profit of £7.5m, reports The Athletic.

Overall revenue for the year to the end of May 2022 climbed by £107m to a club record £594m. However, Liverpool’s wage bill also rocketed to £366m – an increase of nearly 17 per cent on the previous 12 months. That was the main reason why total administrative costs rose by £69m to £545m.

This could be a problem for the Reds’ owners FSG in the future as the club’s wage-to-revenue ratio is at 61.6 per cent and growing closer to UEFA’s recommended 70 per cent mark.

    Liverpool were exceptional last season

Liverpool’s staff costs have risen by 76 per cent over the last five years, rising from £208m to £366m. The reason this is a problem for FSG is that the wages are eating away at the club’s revenue, hampering their ability to spend money on new signings unless players are sold.

This could be a reason why FSG are looking for investors as the revenue could cover the wages while new income could go towards making signings.

Liverpool are still third domestically in terms of commercial revenue behind Manchester United (£262million) and Manchester City (£316m).
