Sky Bet’s Director of Technology Resigns after a Six Years Tenure

Bovada LV Score $750 Welcome Bonus

Mark Joyce, director of technology at Sky Betting & Gaming, announced his leave from the company via his official LinkedIn profile. Joyce received warm goodbyes from his colleagues and reflected positively on his six years at the Flutter-owned operator but did not disclose any specific plans for the future.

Diverse IT Work Gave Joyce Considerable Experience

Joyce’s work for Sky Bet was his first official foray into the gambling industry. His professional journey started from the very bottom as a digital graphic designer but quickly developed his skills to encompass significantly wider IT and technical support tasks. Joyce’s first few years included working with specialized software, which helped him hone his product management and customer relations skills. He also worked on improving the UK’s National Health Service IT systems and steadily accumulated both experience and recognition.

The first high-profile senior-level position Joyce held was with the engineering company Helical Technology Ltd, where he had the opportunity to found a new sister company focused on renewable energy systems in 2009. As director of engineering development, he gained valuable leadership skills, which helped him further his career and secure management positions at high-profile companies like British Gas, Yahoo, and BBC.

The Former Director Fondly Recalled His Time with Sky Bet

Sky Betting & Gaming was the company where Mark Joyce stayed the longest. He joined the gambling giant in 2016 as head of delivery and steadily rose through the ranks until he became director of technology. He led 21 teams, oversaw Sky Bet’s technology strategy, and managed delivery/operations.

In his post, Joyce fondly recalled his time with the company, reminiscing about his positive experiences and the friendships he had made during that time.

I’m grateful… for the opportunities I was given, the skills and experience I gained but also the day-to-day human kindness and support I encountered.

Mark Joyce, former director of technology at Sky Betting & Gaming

Joyce added that the position had helped shape him professionally and personally and was a defining chapter in his life. He did not specify his reasons for leaving but stated that he always gave his best during his six years with the company, expressing regret that he could not do more.

I’ll reflect on my time with the best memories and will take the lessons forward to try and be better than I was yesterday.

Mark Joyce, former director of technology at Sky Betting & Gaming

Future Employers Will Have a High Bar to Clear

Joyce’s former colleagues wished him the best of luck and commented positively on his tenure at Sky Bet. Rik Barker, CIO of Flutter, noted that it had been a privilege to work with the former director of technology and wished him luck in his future endeavors.

The LinkedIn post did not specify Joyce’s plans for the future, but with a substantial resume encompassing a variety of industries, his professional journey is unlikely to stop here. However, any company willing to attract him would have to offer a substantial proposition to surpass Sky Bet.

According to the latest workplace review by the job posting website Glassdoor, the operator ranked among the best employers in the UK. The Sky Bet senior leaders received praise for making the company a better place to work and adapting to the challenges of COVID-19.

  • Italy’s AGCOM Issues Fines to Companies Promotion Gambling via YouTube

Italy’s AGCOM Issues Fines to Companies Promotion Gambling via YouTube

Bovada LV Score $750 Welcome Bonus

Italy’s media and communications agency, Autorità per le Garanzie nelle Comunicazioni (AGCOM), has issued a warning to both domestic and international media owners, as well as affiliate publishers that the gambling advertising rules in the Dignity Decree must be respected and obeyed. The warning comes after AGCOM issued a €750,000 ($743,000) fine to Google Ireland Ltd.

Google Ireland Ltd Wasn’t the Only Company That Was Fined by AGCOM

Google Ireland Ltd received the record-breaking fine after it promoted gambling-related content in its YouTube videos. However, it is not the only company that was caught by the wrath of AGCOM.

Top Ads Ltd, an affiliate marketing agency based in Malta, was also fined €700,000 ($694,000). The company created illicit content which promoted gambling promotions on SpikeSlot.com and according to reports, they were distributed to 5 YouTube channels.

AGCOM reminded companies that it is able to fine foreign owners thanks to the recent rulings by the European Court of Justice (ECJ), which gives it authority to do so. It also noted that YouTube breached Dignity Decree’s Article 8.

According to Article 8, direct and indirect gambling ads are not allowed to be displayed to the Italian audience.

In the warning, AGCOM noted that this is the office’s first measure against a video hosting company and said that YouTube was found liable for not removing the illegal content that was distributed to its platform by a third party.

The Gambling Industry in Italy Is Set to Be Reformed, but the Process May Be Harder Than Anticipated

Back in March, authorities in Italy announced that the gambling industry will be reformed and the changes will take place in the next 12-18 months. The changes were confirmed by the Italian Ministry of Finance’s gambling sub-secretary and they were initiated to help the country recover from the pandemic.

However, after Mario Draghi, the Prime Minister of Italy, tried to resign in late July, the industry was dealt a huge blow. Draghi’s resignation was not accepted by Italy’s president, Sergio Mattarella, and thus, the political situation in the country became chaotic.

Back then, Draghi noted that there was no more national unity majority in the government and that is why many of the scheduled reforms might be delayed. This could cause major problems for gambling operators. The licenses of gambling operators in the country expire on December 31, 2022.

A small fraction of good news came to the country’s sportsbooks as their licenses were extended by the Customs and Monopolies Agency until June 30, 2024. Between June 30, 2022, and June 30, 2024, sportsbook operators will have to make two installments.

The first one will be on October 31, 2022, and the second will be on April 30, 2023. The same dates will apply for the second year of the license duration.

Chau’s Trial Postponed as Defendants Fail to Show Up

Bovada LV Score $750 Welcome Bonus

Alvin Chau’s trial has been postponed after more than half of the defendants failed to turn up on September 2.

Half of the Defendants Didn’t Show Up

Alvin Chau is the ex-chair of the notorious Suncity Group, a Chinese junket operator that was allegedly involved in numerous illegal gambling activities. Because of his involvement with Suncity, Chau was arrested in December last year. The man has over 200 legal charges for running unlicensed gaming and participating in organized crime. He allegedly took part in other fraudulent activities such as money laundering.

Needless to say, Chau’s trial is something of key importance for the future of the Macau gaming industry. However, it has been postponed as over half of Chau’s associates failed to appear at the trial. For reference, a total of 21 people have been accused of running fraudulent gaming operations. However, only 10 of them showed up on September 2, forcing the court to reschedule the trial for September 19.

Suncity Was a Leading Junket Operator

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Suncity used to be one of the powerhouses in Macau. The junket singlehandedly generated over a quarter of the special administrative region’s total gross gaming revenues and was the leading gambling company around.

In December 2021, Macau’s law enforcers arrested Chau after the latter was accused of participating in organized crime and offering illegal gaming in Mainland China. His arrest spelled the doom of Macau’s junket industry and led to the shutdown of all of Suncity’s VIP gaming rooms.

Later estimates put Suncity’s illegal gaming handle at a whopping $105 billion. Several reports claim that the junket also scammed casino operators by sharing doctored data about the handle, effectively undermining operators’ revenues and by extension – taxes.

The whole Suncity saga has caused many Chinese to distrust Macau’s gaming industry, which has further damaged the region’s already struggling GGR.

    Suncity’s Downfall Affected Star Australia

Suncity was also the cause of the inquiry into Star Entertainment’s business. The Australian operator had close ties with the Chinese junket and even allowed it to operate an unlicensed gambling cage on the premises of its Sydney casino.

An investigation uncovered many shortcomings in Star’s AML protocols and the company almost lost its license to operate in New South Wales. The inquiry found out that Star’s higher-ups were negligent of what was happening on the premises of their casino and even allowed dangerous Chinese intelligence officers to frequent the cage.

  • Time for Rohaan at Haydock

    Time for Rohaan at Haydock

Bovada LV Score $750 Welcome Bonus

    Haydock, Saturday

LION OF WAR might be worth a small investment at 11/1 as an alternative to the heavy favourite Naval Power in the opening Ascendant Stakes at Haydock on Saturday (1.15pm).

Although at first glance his limitations were exposed in the Superlative, he looked raw, green and ill at ease on the track. In addition, he was held up off just a tepid pace. If this long striding colt is allowed to press forward, he could be very well suited to Haydock and his precious efforts strongly suggested a horse of significant potential.

TRIPLE TIME must be the way forward in the Superior Mile (1.45pm) at 13/2. I’d never mind taking on Reach For The Moon, whose achievements are a shade short of his reputation, and Kevin Ryan’s beautifully bred colt looked right out of the top drawer last year in two spins at this track. There aren’t many horses who could dish out a 10-length beating to Ebor Festival winner Point Lynas, let alone dance all over the 108-Rated Hafit. At the prices, we must take his fitness on trust and hope that this is a stepping stone to something much better.

POST IMPRESSIONIST is taking some of my each-way support in the 14 furlong handicap (2.20pm) at 12/1. Everything about this horse’s run style and pedigree suggests he wants this sort of trip, and he ran pretty respectably from an unpromising position at Beverley last week.

EUCHEN GLEN (15/2) might have one more big race in him, and that might just be the Old Borough Cup (2.55pm). His run in the Ebor (clearly a long held target) was excellent and luckless, held up in a tempo led affair. He won this a couple of years ago from a similar mark, and there are no signs of any obvious regression. Any rain that falls will clearly be a big help.

ROHAAN can give Hollie Doyle another Group One in the Spring Cup (3.35pm) at 9/1. He’s a mercurial character, but we know now that he’s more than worth his place in this sort of race, and – in an open contest – he might just have the perfect set up. To my eye, he should get the ideal draft into the race behind the middle drawn pace of Emaraaty Ana, Brad The Brief and Khaadem and he can take advantage of a potential meltdown, particularly if and when the rain falls.

    Kempton, Saturday

SOLID STONE looks the one at 7/1 in the September Stakes (2.05pm). He’s had a little break since Royal Ascot, when he was a bit free for his own good but still ran respectably, and can go very well on a surface that he enjoys if he reverts to type and relaxes somewhat. With his main market rivals likely to deploy waiting tactics, he could easily get first run and he has the right jockey to judge the fractions to perfection.

BALDOMERO is worth a small each-way interest at 14/1 in the London Mile Final (2.40pm). He enjoys this track and is only a little higher than when quite convincing here in the spring. This trip is a minimum, but he won’t be too far away from the pace and isn’t to be underestimated.

    Ascot, Saturday

TACTICAL (14/1) is well worth another dart in the seven furlong race at Ascot (3.10pm). He’s not an easy horse to get a handle on these days, but his desperately unlucky run at the Royal meeting rather got lost in the fog. His overall profile rather suggests that seven furlongs is where he needs to be, and he won’t mind if a bit of rain falls.

FIRST RULER can win again at Ascot (3.45pm) at 11/4. I was quite taken with his defeat of the in-form and well handicapped Etonian at this track and the three pound rise is quite generous.

  • Camelot’s Legal Hurdle with the UKGC May Impact Good Causes

Camelot’s Legal Hurdle with the UKGC May Impact Good Causes

Bovada LV Score $750 Welcome Bonus

Earlier this year, the Gambling Commission awarded Allwyn the contract for the UK Lottery. It was believed that this may be the end of the reign of Camelot which held the contract for nearly three decades since 1994. However, Camelot did not agree with the regulator’s decision and decided to challenge it in court.

Legal Hurdle between Camelot and the GC Continues

Now, according to a new report, Camelot’s decision to challenge the loss of the UK Lottery contract to Allwyn may delay the funding of good causes. What’s more, such a legal challenge may temporarily suspend the lottery for the first time since its launch back in 1994. Recently, The Observer revealed details regarding a legal submission by the regulator in the UK.

In the worst scenario, there will be a gap in service between the expiry of the third license on 31 January 2024 and the commencement of the fourth license,

    explains the Gambling Commission

The submission reveals that “in the worst scenario,” a legal challenge may create a gap in the service between the date when the third license expires and the fourth lottery license starts. In other words, from January 31, 2022, the date when the third lottery license is set to expire, there may be a service gap. Ultimately, according to the Gambling Commission, this may disrupt the payments to good causes. An estimate of £1 billion ($1.2 billion) may not reach good causes, the regulator claims in its recent legal submission.

The commission anticipates there will be an overall shortfall of payment to good causes of at least £1 billion and, in the case of an interregnum, considerably more,

reveals the legal submission by the Gambling Commission

Allwyn Expected to Increase the Funds for Good Causes

One of the reasons why Allwyn won the National Lottery license was a promise for an increase of the money to good causes. With Allwyn as the licensee holder, good causes are expected to get some £38 billion ($43.9 billion) for the duration of its 10-year contract. In contrast, for the 28 years with Camelot spearheading the lottery, nearly £46 billion ($52.9 billion) were allocated toward good causes. Overall, more than 600,000 good causes and organizations benefited from the National Lottery contributions.

Any delay in the handover of the lottery that denies money going to good causes would be a disaster, particularly at a time when people are facing increasing hardship.

Kevin Brennan, Committee member of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS) committee and Labor MP

Kevin Brennan, the Committee member of the Digital, Culture, Media and Sports (DCMS) committee and Labor MP, commented on the topic in a statement released by The Guardian. He explained that a delay in the handover of the lottery may result in dire consequences for good causes. According to Brennan, currently, many people are facing hardship so it would be best if this legal hurdle is resolved as quickly as possible.

Celtic vs Real Madrid Champions League Odds, Time, and Prediction

Bovada LV Score $750 Welcome Bonus

It’s time for the 2022-23 UEFA Champions League! The first round of the group phase kicks off on Tuesday, September 6. Eight games are on the program that day and the one that’s caught our attention is Celtic vs Real Madrid.

The reason why we decided to analyze this game and share our top picks with you is that this game features the reigning Champions League champ, Real Madrid. Knowing that Los Blancos are the title holders, it’s no surprise that online sportsbooks favor them to win on Tuesday. However, the odds have started moving against them over the last couple of days, suggesting that bettors do have a good opinion of Celtic.

The probable reason why they have faith in the Hoops is that the Celtic vs Real Madrid game is played at Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland. That’s where the boys in green have suffered only one loss since September 2021.

When, Where, and How to Watch?

    Date: Tuesday, September 6

    Time: 3:00 AM ET

Place: Celtic Park in Glasgow, Scotland

    Celtic Relying on Fan Support

Scotland’s largest soccer stadium – Celtic Park – has a capacity of 60,411 seats, most of which will be occupied by Celtic fans. In fact, only a few thousand tickets are allocated to Real Madrid fans.

With their fans in the stands, the Hoops are expected to give their utmost on the pitch. The question is whether their utmost is good enough for Real Madrid. We can’t say for sure as these two have played only once in Glasgow. It happened back in 1980 when the hosts won 2-0.

What we can say for sure is that Celtic is great at home. These guys are coming off a blowout win over their arch-rivals, Glasgow Rangers. The game in question took place on Saturday and it saw the Hoops win 4-0. It was their 13th home win in competitive games in 2022. They’ve also played a draw on one occasion this year, while also losing one match.

    Los Blancos Simply Look Unstoppable

Real Madrid has nothing but wins since the start of the 2022 campaign. After returning from the summer break, Los Blancos beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 in the UEFA Super Cup on August 10. Four days later, the new season of the Spanish La Liga started, and they beat Almeria 2-1 in the opener.

From there, they went on to win another three games in the domestic league. The teams they defeated are, namely, Celta Vigo (4-1), Espanyol (3-1), and Real Betis (2-1).

As you can see, Los Blancos have been brilliant in the offense, scoring at least two goals in every single game in the last three weeks. They did, however, concede a goal in each of their previous four games. Maybe the same is going to happen in the fifth as well?

    Celtic vs Real Madrid Prediction

It would be crazy not to back Real Madrid in this game. Carlo Ancelotti’s men just love to play in the Champions League, which is why anything but a win over Celtic would be a huge surprise. Still, we think the Celtic vs Real Madrid game is going to be a real battle, which could see goals on both ends.

Picks: Real Madrid to win; over 2.5 goals

  • 16,000 Missourians Were Blocked from Sports Betting in Kansas

16,000 Missourians Were Blocked from Sports Betting in Kansas

Bovada LV Score $750 Welcome Bonus

It turns out that the residents of Missouri seem pretty eager to make sports bets as on September 1 16,000 of them were blocked from doing so after neighboring state Kansas launched its sports betting market.

Missourians Want to Be Able to Place Sports Bets in Their Own State

Sports betting in Missouri is not legalized but most neighboring states have already launched their sports wagering markets with Kansas being the latest to join the party.

On September 1, location detection software and cybersecurity services provider GeoComply Solutions blocked a total of 16,000 attempts from Missourians to place bets on Kansas sports betting mobile applications. About 60% of those were located in the Missourian part of Kansas City, just miles away from the state border with Kansas. This goes to show the great interest Missouri residents have in sports wagering.

As a result, Caleb Rowden, who is a member of the Missouri State Senate, has stated that the legalization of sports betting in Missouri will be one of the priorities in the senate’s next legislative round. The senator further noted that introducing sports wagering in the state is something politicians across all parties support, not only his fellow republicans.

Kansas is the 32nd state to legalize sports betting. The official launch of the retail sports wagering market was set for September 1, while the online betting options will go live on September 8. Everybody who is over 21 is allowed to place bets on sports events as long as the person is located within the Kansas state borders. GeoComply Solutions has noted that a bettor’s location is verified a number of times during his or her use of sports betting app and as close as someone is to the state border the more often the software checks that person’s exact location.

    Missouri’s Gambling Legislation Hassles

The fact that Kansas has launched retail and online sports betting does not mean that the same will happen in Missouri. Neighbor state Illinois launched its sports betting market in 2020, while sports betting has been live in Missouri’s northern neighbor, Iowa, since 2019.

Missouri lacks not only legislation in terms of sports betting. Even regulations regarding the already legal gambling options are unclear and need improvement. For example, the state has been struggling with the illegal spread of slot machines at petrol stations, bars, and corner shops. The main reason for the troubles is that unlike in neighboring states Illinois, for example, Missouri there is no legislation that controls and taxes such gambling machines outside of casinos.

Pariplay Secures License in City of Buenos Aires

Bovada LV Score $750 Welcome Bonus

NeoGames’ subsidiary, Pariplay, continues to bring its services to new jurisdictions. The company’s original content and aggregation solution have been licensed in Buenos Aires City, Argentina, and will be available to local gaming license holders.

Pariplay Now Licensed in City of Buenos Aires

The permit is issued by the Government of the City of Buenos Aires, which is an independent jurisdiction in Argentina for the purposes of iGaming regulation. This marks the latest important entry for Pariplay in Latin America, as the company seeks to establish a recognizable footprint in both North and South America.

The Autonomous City of Buenos Aires has three million people and a sizable gaming audience. This means that Tier 1 operators in the jurisdiction who hold the relevant licenses can now feature any of the 14,000 titles provided by Pariplay through its Fusion platform and some 80+ providers. Integration is easy, and Pariplay’s solution delivers across the board of categories, including instant games, virtual sports, poker, bingo, and sportsbook.

Pariplay also features a number of ancillary features and solutions that help operators to promote the products and make them more accessible, with options such as free spins, independent bonus wallets, spin the wheel feature, raffle rocket, tournaments, and more. Pariplay managing director Adrian Bailey welcomed the development and said:

The Autonomous City of Buenos Aires has a rich heritage in the industry, and it is very satisfying to have gained our first supplier license in Argentina.

    Pariplay managing director Adrian Bailey

Pariplay director for Latin America and the Caribbean Jorge L Morales was equally thrilled with the opportunity to welcome this new development in Buenos Aires. The region is poised to explode in terms of iGaming and sports betting and securing permits to operate in some of the most lucrative markets is an important step forward for the company.

Buenos Aires and Argentina are an essential part of the company’s growth strategy in the region. Pariplay already has a strong presence in both Mexico and Colombia, and the company obtained a license in Canada earlier this year. Pariplay is on a tear so far as expanding its reach in new jurisdictions is concerned.
